Bad Education The Result of Bad Education?

Student teachers are receiving different training at universities, highlights a new Scottish Government report.

Literacy has taken the biggest blow, with the analysis of initial teacher education (ITE) courses highlighting major variations in the time spent on key components of the curriculum, with the widest variation in the crucial area of literacy. With literacy at low levels in Scotland this is a serious blow to the education system in Scotland.

Mr Swinney, said: "It is essential all teacher education programmes are of the highest quality. They must deliver appropriate content for literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, as well as data literacy and equality, across both the primary and secondary sectors.

"I am very concerned by the wide variations identified in this report, which have also been highlighted in evidence submitted to the Education and Skills Committee on workforce planning."

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) are responsible for maintaining teaching standards and for ensuring that the initial teacher education provided by universities of education is up to par.

Ty's Unknown Voice Mail

Twitter user @sratyedaway ignited debate three days ago when he shared a video of a voice mail he received that left a Nato Alphabet message with co-ordinates.  The message has been translated to read; "SDANGER/SOS/IT/IS/DIRE/FOR/YOU/TO/EVACUATE/BE/CAUTIOUS/THEY/ARE/NOT/HUMAN/SOS/DANGER/SOS"  The Twitter user, known as Ty, jokes that he's; "Throwing my phone away" after translating the voice message.  Ty looked up the co-ordinates left at the end of the voice mail finding them to indicate a place on the coast of Indonesia, which he stated he has no connections to. Following this Ty shared that he has received an Indonesian text message which translated to; "End the post you just shared about the recording on your phone." With this the internet has taken to Ty's story with vigour, with theories coming on all sides. The story has to date been shared widely on Twiter and Facebook, covered by YouTube channels and some online media groups...

Scorrail introduces no smoking regulations

Have you heard? Scotrail has rolled out no-smoking regulations on all of there platforms! Surely this is something to rejoice amongst all of the terrible things that have happened this year, especially recently. However, I cannot help but be very sceptical of this new arrangement. In England the no smoking rule has been rolled out across all stations for years, showcased by brightly coloured signs up and down platforms warning of possible fines for smokers. Though a reasonable idea the result is not pleasant. When at an open-air, small train station down in England, though there are in fact no smokers on the platforms, they are even more unavoidable than before. Now unable to smoke on the station, they gather in hives at the gate entrance, a spot where the regulation dose not stretch and where they can still see and run for their trains at the last minute. This collective of smoking individuals is something any person seeking to board a train at the same station must pus...
